How are vaginal infections treated?
2
Your treatment regimen may be in the form of a vaginal douche, gel or pessary. Use the medication in your treatment regimen exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Don't stop using the medication when the symptoms disappear, or during menstruation. Use it until it is finished or until your doctor advises you to stop. Return for a visit to your doctor as directed. If your doctor prescribes vaginal creams or gels, you may experience some leakage while using it. A sanitary pad worn during treatment can make you feel more comfortable.

Wear cotton panties.
Use mild soap when you bath or shower.
Dry your genital area gently and thoroughly after showering, bathing or swimming.
Make sure the vagina is adequately lubricated during intercourse.
When cleansing after going to the toilet, wipe from front to back so that organisms aren't transferred from the rectum to the vagina.
Avoid tight slacks and unventilated pantyhose.
Discuss any medication you're on with your doctor.
