A vaginal infection is an inflammation of the lining of the vagina. It often causes itching, pain, a burning sensation and a vaginal discharge. A variety of bacteria, microorganisms and yeast co-exist in the vagina. When the normal vaginal balance is disturbed by antibiotics, injury to the vagina or harsh soaps, certain bacteria or fungi may grow out of control causing infection.
